On this excursion, you will visit THE NATIONAL AVIARY, where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful natural places and a great variety of birds in their natural habitat. After this visit, we will go to WHITE BEACH, where you can enjoy the sun, the fresh breeze and the crystal clear waters of this area of Barú. You can also enjoy lunch.

Just 50 minutes from Cartagena, at kilometer 14.5 of the Baru Island, is this paradise of biodiversity, an unmissable destination that introduces its visitors to a place with thick vegetation, waterfalls, streams, varzéas and marshy areas; an unthinkable area in full Colombian Caribbean.

Ecotourism hand in hand with education and research

El Aviario Nacional de Colombia no sólo es la nueva alternativa turística para residentes y visitantes de la Costa Atlántica, sino que también busca promover el conocimiento de la diversidad de aves de Colombia, su uso sostenible y manejo responsable.

Es el lugar perfecto para el ecoturismo, pero también un centro de investigación que busca no solo conservar las aves, sino reproducirlas. Actualmente existen tres programas de reproducción de aves amenazadas o en vía de extinción: Paujil Piqueazul (Crax Alberti), especie endémica de Colombia; Cóndor de los Andes (Vultur gryphus), ave emblemática del país; y Águila Arpía (Harpia harpyja), el ave rapaz más poderosa del mundo.

Las aves que habitan en el aviary son provenientes, entre otras, de las Corporaciones Autónomas Regionales del país, quienes, a causa del tráfico ilegal de fauna silvestre, las tienen; otras, provienen del intercambio entre las instituciones zoológicas y otras muchas de su reproducción ‘in situ’.

In the National Aviary of Colombia we have 170 species of birds and about 1700 specimens. The tour in the aviary es unidireccional y dura aproximadamente dos horas, algunos de ellos son especies amenazadas es tan buena oportunidad para observar una colección única y maravillosa de aves de Colombia and América Latina.

During the tour you will find three ecosystems:

Coastal area.
Desert.
